Print a QR code: PNG, SVG and readability

SVG is vector-based: its edges stay sharp when enlarged. PNG is a pixel image. In both cases, validate the QR size, contrast and margin on a real print proof.

Which format should you choose?

Use SVG in a layout tool that supports vectors, especially for large posters. PNG suits digital use and print when its resolution is sufficient. Avoid enlarging a small PNG or distorting the code proportions.

How should you prepare the material?

Keep contrast between the pattern and its background, as well as the supplied clear margin around the code. Place it on a flat, visible and accessible area. Transparency helps integrate a QR into your design but requires particular care with the material’s colour and texture.

How do you validate scanning?

Print a proof at the real size. Scan it with several phones in the intended lighting and at the intended distance. Also check that the destination page works on mobile. No universal size works for every pattern, material and situation.
